This Honey-Citrus Grilled Chicken Kabobs recipe is the most delicious flavor-packed marinated chicken. It is grilled to perfection, with layers of flavor from sweet, citrusy, and spicy flavors.
Summer is around the corner, and it means a lot of BBQing and cookouts. Most importantly, we also want to take the advantage of enjoying the good weather. Even if it means cooking and grilling outside.
During the summer season, creating an easy meal is always my goal. For instance, I do a lot of meal prepping as well as, freezer meals. This includes, marinating batches of the meats for BBQ, then freezing them. Besides, I find it easy and handy since we already have meat ready if we want to BBQ.
This Honey-Citrus Grilled Chicken kabob is a dish that is full of layered flavors. It’s bright, and zesty but balanced with sweet and spicy flavors. The chicken is soaked up in the marinade along with the colorful veggies that are grilled to perfection.

- Microwave for at least 30 seconds so that the honey dissolves fast.Â
- Stir in garlic, ginger, and orange and lemon zest.
- Mix well, set aside.
How to cook Honey-Citrus Chicken Kabobs
- Cut the chicken into 1-inch pieces, season with salt & pepper
- Add in the honey-citrus marinade and combine well.
- Next, add your veggies to the chicken marinade.
- Cover and marinate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
How to assemble the Chicken in the skewers
- Soaking the bamboo skewers 20 minutes before use prevents them from burning on the grill.
- When you assemble the chicken in the skewer, try to make sure that you alternate your veggies and chicken.Â
- Reserve marinade for basting the chicken.
Sometimes, I have more veggies than my chicken, so I try to add more of it or double them up when assembling. However, if you’ve got more marinated vegetables left, thread them separately and grill them up. Now, you’ve made yourself Vegetable Kabob. 🙂
Grilling your Chicken
Once your chicken kabob is assembled. It’s also time to fire up the grill.Â
- To grill up the skewers, place them on the grates and grill until the internal temperature is 165 degrees F. (using a meat thermometer) In addition, cooking time depends on the size of your chicken.
- Flip halfway or rotate them every so often using your tong so that they will cook evenly.
TIP: Brush it with the reserved marinade, to have a more flavorful, juicy chicken and veggies.
Here are some alternative ways in cooking your kabobs:
First: Use your BBQ grill. This is excellent during summertime, since it is so hot to cook in the kitchen, why not enjoy and do the cookout.Â
Second: Using the oven. During winter or cold season, when we want to have BBQ or kabobs, I just bake or broil them in the oven.
What to serve with your HONEY-CITRUS CHICKEN KABOBS:
As a side dish, I always pair this chicken with rice or quinoa. However, when I get the chance to make a salad, I love to pair this with Creamy Ranch Pasta Salad & Creamy Shell Chicken Pasta Salad.
