Equipment

  • Bread Machine

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Bread Flour
  • 2 cups All Purpose Flour
  • 8 tbsp Sugar
  • 2/3 cup Milk (warm)
  • 2/3 cup Water
  • 1 Egg
  • 4 tbsp Melted Butter
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 3 tbsp Ube Powder
  • 2 1/4 tsp Active dry yeast or 1 packet
  • Breadcrumbs for coating
  • Ube Extract -optional
  • Cheddar Cheese (or your preferred melting cheese)

Instructions

  • Begin by combining the liquid ingredients. Combine milk, eggs, water, softened butter, sugar, salt, ube powder, bread flour, all-purpose flour, and lastly the active dry yeast in the bread machine pan.
  • Set your bread machine to the "dough" cycle, allowing it to work its magic in kneading the dough.
  • Prepare a large bowl and brush it with oil to prevent the dough from sticking.
When the dough cycle is done, transfer your dough into the prepared bowl.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and top it with a kitchen towel, then put it in a warm place until the size becomes double.
  • Meanwhile, grease your 9x13 baking pan, or use parchment paper.
  • Once your dough has doubled in size, gently deflate and divide your dough into equal portions then roll it into a ball.
  • Flatten each portion, place a sliced cheese in the center, and seal the edges to form a ball.
  • Roll each ball in breadcrumbs for a delightful crust.
  • Arrange the coated balls on a baking sheet, cover them loosely with a clean kitchen towel, and let them rise until double in size.
  • Preheat oven to 350 ℉ (175℃) and bake the Ube Cheese Pandesal for 18-20 minutes or until golden brown.
Allow the pandesal to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

  •  Cream cheese is also a great option for filling.
  • Ube Pandesal can also be enjoyed on its own. (no filling)
  • Use 1 tablespoon of Ube Extract if you don't have Ube powder.

Storing Ube Cheese Pandesal

  • Room Temperature (Short-Term)   If you plan to consume within a day or two, you can store them at room temperature. Place it in an airtight container or resealable plastic bag and keep it away from direct sunlight.
  • Refrigeration (Longer Storage) For an extended shelf life, consider refrigerating the Ube Cheese Pandesal. Place them in an airtight container or plastic bag to prevent absorption of odors from the refrigerator. Before serving, let the pandesal come to room temperature or reheat them briefly in the oven to restore their freshness.
  • Freezing (Extended Storage)  Ube Cheese Pandesal can be frozen for longer-term storage. Ensure they are completely cooled before freezing. Wrap each pandesal individually in plastic wrap to prevent freezer burn. Place the wrapped pandesal in a freezer bag, removing as much air as possible before sealing. Label the bag with the date to keep track of freshness. To thaw, leave them at room temperature or reheat them in the oven for a few minutes.
