How to make SOFT WHOLE WHEAT HONEY BREAD
The coronavirus pandemic seems to have brought out the inner baker in many of us lately, to the point where there appear to be occasional shortages of baking essentials. Many have been making Homemade bread, and nothing beats the smell of fresh bread straight from the oven, right?
Baking bread is therapeutic. It makes me feel alive and connected with myself. Baking also provides a sense of accomplishment, especially in this period of angst and unknowns.
Here I will share with you my best Honey Whole Wheat bread recipe, which is soft and great for sandwiches. Its easy to bake, saves money, and adds the benefit of knowing exactly what is in your bread and any health benefits.
This Whole Wheat Bread is made with 100% whole wheat bread flour and your favorite natural sweetener. A soft and fluffy sandwich bread that stays fresh for days!
SOFT WHOLE WHEAT HONEY BREAD
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 ½ cup warm water
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- ¼ cup honey
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter softened
- 4 cups whole wheat bread flour – you may need to add more – ¼ cup at a time
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar
DIRECTION:
- Place warm water in your stand mixer (in a large bowl in you don’t one) and add 1 tablespoon sugar and 1 packet yeast – set aside for 5 to 10 minutes, allow to yeast proof.
- Add honey and butter
- Blend in 2 cups of flour and salt until moistened, beat on medium speed and adding 1 cup of flour at a time.
- Knead on medium speed until dough is elastic for about 10 minutes.
(it may take awhile if you are using your hands to knead – just make sure it is elastic enough and you know that it is done)
- Place the dough in a large greased bowl and cover loosely with plastic wrap. And place it in a warm area.
- Let it rise until double in size. It may take 45 minutes to an hour.
- Spray your 9×5 inch loaf pan with a non-stick spray.
- Punch the dough and divide in half. Shape it into a loaf.
9. Place in prepared pan, cover loosely with plastic wrap or clean kitchen towel
10. Place it in a warm area until it is double in size – 45 minutes to 1 hour
11. Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C)
12. Uncover the dough and bake it for 40 to 45 minutes, until your loaf sounds hollow when lightly tapped.
You can make 2 loaves out of this recipe.
*Dough rising varies – if you live in warmer climate your dough will double in size less than 1 hour, but if you live in a cooler climate like I do, it would take 1 to 3 hours for your dough to rise.
